Expected annual base salary range: $69,840 to $72,000
GPS Level: P3

JOB SUMMARY:  
Provide scientific review and analysis for institutions such as hospitals, clinics, and laboratories so that their studies and projects can be successfully reviewed and approved by an Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). Areas of research include human gene transfer clinical trials and laboratory research related to recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules. Additional responsibilities may include working with IBC Specialists to prepare documents for IBC review and contacting institutions and committee members.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Bachelor's degree in the life sciences or a related field.  Advanced degrees and/or related certifications are a plus.
  • A combination of education and experience must provide at a minimum basic understanding of biomedical terminology, human disease, microbiology and bloodborne pathogens, and clinic safety measures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.  The accountabilities listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.
  • Analyze the training, facilities, and operations of institutions, and provide guidance to personnel and staff members at these institutions to prepare for IBC review of human gene transfer clinical studies with/or laboratory research projects.
  • Provide education and analysis to institutions regarding compliance with the NIH Guidelines for Research with Recombinant and Synthetic Nucleic Acids Molecules and affiliated regulations.
  • Assist institutions with identifying areas in their overall biosafety programs that may require improvement in order to comply with regulations and standards.
  • Host teleconference-based convened IBC meetings, record meeting minutes, and assist institutions in addressing specific recommendations and conditions of approval made by the IBC.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor. These may, on occasion, be unrelated to the position described here.
  • Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the position.
