Description and Requirements

The Data Architect will report to the VP, Data & Technology Solutions and will be involved in the design and execution of projects related to the WCG Knowledge Base. The position will combine data science, software engineering, and a close collaboration with internal and external customers, to develop new innovative solutions to maximize the quality and value of WCG’s data assets. The Data Architect will develop and influence innovative and best practice to enhance data storage, optimization and rendering across our portfolio of applications. This role will also support WCG’s data initiatives.

Essential Duties / Responsibility: 

  • Responsible for establishing standards and guidelines related to database architecture, data storage, reporting, dashboards, ETL and Business Intelligence as used in our applications

  • Design and build data pipelines and complex engineering required to sustainably source data into a cloud environment

  • Collaborate with internal organizations to source data and interoperate with existing systems

  • Act as subject matter expert (SME) to internal and external parties for data related projects

  • Work across the WCG organization to develop new data-based capabilities in our products to increase both internal and customer value

  • Work alongside WCG Data Operations and other business units to help design, implement, and support solutions that utilize WCG’s combined data assets to provide unique and differentiated products in the marketplace

  • Support our Data organization to ensure our applications are collecting, organizing and providing the desired data points to support the WCG data strategy

  • Contribute to our core digital platform and augment capabilities to build data assets and continuously improve our platform offering

Education Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Business Intelligence, Data Analytics or Applied Mathematics a plus

Qualifications / Experience:  

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in data integration, data engineering, pipeline technologies and data technologies from relational databases to big data solutions

  • 3-5 years’ experience with R, Python, SQL and other data mining tools and languages

  • Excellent knowledge of data related technologies, databases, data processing, visualization and analytics

  • Proven experience in providing solutions for data management, business intelligence or technology organizations

  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex data to a variety of audiences

  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
