Description and Requirements

WCG is search for a dedicated and determined General Manager to help grow our business throughout the European region.  As a member of the senior leadership team, you will be responsible for identifying business opportunities, maintaining existing business relationships, as well as selling our services.  In this role, you will also be responsible for ensuring the integrity and quality of the delivery of our core services. The GM will partner with each company’s workforce to deliver a streamlined, effective and client-centered approach to service.   He/she will work in partnership with all in-region teams and divisional/functional leadership, providing multinational leadership for all business lines in Europe and promoting performance excellence, productivity, and employee engagement. 

Qualifications / Experience:

  • At least 15 years of work experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, CRO, life-sciences service or related environment with increasing responsibility.

  • At least 10 years in a management role; at least five years’ experience leading a regional team preferred.

  • Management of business development function within a company.

  • Proven track record in building internal capability to expand service lines, product offerings, and/or customers.

  • Ability to think strategically at the executive level, implement change, incorporate innovation and implement strategies throughout all levels of the organization.

  • Exceptional team leadership skills to include the ability to effectively mentor, motivate and empower team members.

  • High level customer interaction skills and the ability to build and sustain trusted relationships both internally and externally.

  • Strength in analysis, critical decision making and process improvement.

  • Experience working in a range of settings from large pharma/CRO to start-ups preferred.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational, interpersonal skills and ability to work with people from a variety of disciplinary, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.

Educational Requirements:

  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in business or life science discipline required; Master’s degree preferred. 

Essential Duties / Responsibilities: 

  • Integrating multiple modular services into a seamless delivery experience for clients.

  • Further developing and refining existing processes to ensure sustainable growth of the company

  • Directly supporting and collaborating with Business Development teams to align internal capacities and capabilities to market demands. 

  • Assesses and promotes geographic optimization, manages P&L, profitability, and cost control.

  • Proactively assessing and mitigating risks to service quality.

  • Managing relationships with key stakeholders (investigative sites in addition to clients) to ensure smooth implementation.

  • Promoting interdepartmental collaboration to provide high-quality and innovative solutions and facilitates the introduction of new legal entities in emerging markets.

  • Serve as a resource for mentoring and developing the supporting leadership team.

  • Contribute at the Senior Leadership Team level in overall strategic direction of the company and the role of service delivery in maintaining the company’s competitive advantage and differentiation.

  • Support optimized cost tracking and monitoring.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • While this position does not have any current direct reports, the person hired will be responsible to assist with providing guidance and performance of staff. May include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Travel Requirements: 

  • Ability to travel domestic and internationally, approximately 50% of the time, including overnight stays as necessary, consistent with business needs and office location.
