JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for building and supporting SQL Server database management systems across the company while recommending and implementing standard concepts, practices, and procedures for our application systems. This role may require off hours support for emergent business needs.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree or 8+ years of equivalent industry experience

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSE/REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • MCSA in SQL Server Administration preferred

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • 7+ years of experience in a Senior SQL Server DBA role at the enterprise level supporting the following features:
    • SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS administration
    • Failover Clustering (Always On: FCI & AG) design and configuration
    • Data replication solutions (i.e. Log Shipping and SQL Replication) configuration
    • Applying data compression on tables and indexes
    • Strong troubleshooting with SQL Server Profiler, Database Engine Tuning Advisor, Performance Monitor, and Query Store

  • 10-12 years’ experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2005-201 9.
  • 3-5 years’ experience with PowerShell scripting and automation of SQL Server and Azure or other cloud database offerings
  • 3-5 years’ experience supporting ITSM regarding change, incident and request policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of the following concepts, processes and/or data services:
    • T-SQL administrative scripting
    • Analyzing Dynamic Management Views for monitoring database health
    • Creating SQL Server maintenance plans and/or custom maintenance scripts
    • Database stored procedure, trigger, and index creation and tuning
    • Microsoft Active Directory authentication and authorization.
    • Windows Server 2003-2016 operation
    • Centralized database instance management
    • Azure SQL, Streaming Analytics, or other Azure data services a plus
    • Oracle and Open Source database technologies a plus

  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills
  • Self-starter, proactive and ability to take initiative

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.

  • Install, configure, and maintain the DBMS server operating systems and all supporting software.
  • Recommend short-term and long-term strategic plans to ensure database infrastructure (i.e. Microsoft SQL, Oracle, and Open Source technologies) meets existing and future requirements.
  • Propose backup and recovery processes and procedures and disaster recovery designs and solutions for databases as needed.
  • Define and propose policies, procedures, and associated maintenance plans for DBMS resource administration and appropriate use.
  • Maintain DBMS accounts, groups, permissions, etc. as necessary.
  • Follow database best practices and solutions to support existing database systems
  • Support new and existing development efforts.
  • Manage and tune SQL Server DBMS across different technologies and environments.
  • Troubleshoot database-related issues as necessary.
  • Recommend tools and practices to enhance performance and insights.
  • Create documentation to supplement organization's knowledge, increase consistency, and facilitate ongoing management.
  • Tune database code and relevant scripts prior to implementation.
  • Educate other DBA’s and developers on database best practices on all aspects of database management.
  • Plan maintenance activities and implementation during defined windows.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Off-Hours support is required for this position.
