Description and Requirements

The Senior Director, Software Engineering and DevOps is responsible for driving to implementation inspiring software solutions and managing, mentoring and growing a team of talented engineers. This role will assist in the application portfolio planning process and balance short and long-term application support needs related to enhancements and technology upgrades. The Senior Director will lead multiple concurrent projects to completion on time and within budget.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field

• Relevant technology certifications a plus

• 8+ years overseeing Technology development teams/organizations
• Pharmaceutical and/or CRO industry experience a plus
• Experience managing multiple development teams
• 5+ years managing vendors, especially offshore providers
• 5+ years leading and managing a software development team, following an agile development methodology, preferably Scrum
• Experience with web and mobile technologies
• Experience and knowledge in a broad range of technologies including .NET (including Windows, Web, WCF, WPF, WF, WIF), Java, SQL Server, IIS, hosted solutions, data warehousing, business intelligence and cloud technologies
• Demonstrated experience shipping exceptional software, with hands-on experience regarding the design of large-scale systems and SOA-based service suites
• Hands-on development experience
• Strong OOD/OOP skills and able to mentor on such topics
• Strong leadership quality with decision making and problem-solving skills
• Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities at once
• Metrics driven individual, understanding the importance of utilizing empirical data to drive operational excellence
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within the organization
• Must have strong background regarding software development, program management, and vendor sourcing

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.
• Lead and mentor teams of highly skilled technical professionals.
• Lead and manage offshore development team members.
• Review and approve monthly invoices from offshore partners.
• Instill a spirit of continuous improvement in all aspects of the SDLC process.
• Analyze, scope, and prioritize feature deliverables and bug fixes.
• Drive performance analysis and optimization efforts.
• Collaborate with Technology peers to define and execute the Technology roadmap.
• Establish and report monthly SLAs and KPIs in order to gauge performance of the team.
• Instill a culture of accountability and operational excellence.
• Frequently interacts cross-functionally with other business units and customers.
• Support needs for staffing, resource and project planning, deliverable management, training and career development.
• Work with 3rd party vendors/consultants and makes certain that knowledge sharing and transfer occurs with internal resources.
• Drive operational excellence regarding Tier 3 support efforts, managing to KPIs and SLAs, while fostering a continuous improvement mentality across all team members.
• Perform other responsibilities as determined by management.
• This role may on occasion may require evening and weekend work, based on business need.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor. These may, on occasion, be unrelated to the position described here.
• Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the position.

This role may require up 10% travel which may be domestic or international, including overnight and weekend stays as necessary, consistent with project needs and office location.
